For example, you want a healthy protein such as organic grass-fed meat, free-range poultry, wild fish, and organic whole eggs; good fats such as raw nuts or avocados; plenty of vegetables; and good carbs such as sprouted whole grains, brown rice, or quinoa. You don’t, however, want to eat a serving of brown rice and a serving of quinoa together—one carb at a time. So it is about a balanced meal, as we’ve been brought up to believe—but with maybe a slightly different take on what balance looks like on your plate.

Fat burning can be pretty tasty when done right. Try to think of it not as depriving yourself of foods you love but as finding healthy variations and new ways to enjoy them that will make you both look and feel so much better. For example, do you like mashed potatoes? Well, potatoes unfortunately fall into the category of carbs you want to avoid. However, the good news is that you can make mashed cauliflower.

Don’t wrinkle your nose, and don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! Even if you don’t like cauliflower, you might find yourself very pleasantly surprised when you try it this way. Here’s what you do: take one head of cauliflower, one small onion, one or two tablespoons of organic butter, and one or two cloves of garlic.

Chop up the onion and sauté it with butter, coconut oil, or olive oil. Steam or boil the cauliflower, then combine it with the onion and sauté them together for eight minutes or so. Put the mixture in a blender or food processor and add about a tablespoon of butter, then blend. Chop up the garlic into small pieces, and then cook it until brown in more butter, coconut oil, or olive oil. Add it to the mashed cauliflower and hand-mix it. Voila! You can even use this recipe to make shepherd’s pie.
