The bounties of summer in Colorado

I have turned the television off. Instead of listening to the media’s reports of what we have lost and what we lack, I decided to take a look around in my own world and see for myself. What I have discovered is wonderful: gallons of sunshine, green things popping up everywhere and blooming, giving way to delicious fruits and vegetables. I have found unending smiles from my daughter, meals shared with loved ones and ample opportunity for adventures in our Colorado wilderness. What I have also found is a forgotten measure of quiet; a presence of mind uninterrupted by the constant stream of information to which I had become accustomed.

In my practice, I often see people who complain of anxiety, sleeplessness, and fatigue. It is no wonder; if we took to heart every message we are presented with through the media we would all stay up all night worrying about what is to come. There are many natural remedies available that can help with these symptoms, but often a change in habits is our most effective medicine. Summertime is a season of ease. The sun warms us, food and flowers grow everywhere, and it’s easy to find time for exercise and relaxation. Take the time each day to breathe, nourish the body and mind and take note of the abundance that surrounds us.
